Frogs In Amplexus Costa Rica Rainforest
Two red-eyed tree frogs (Agalychnis callidryas) in amplexus are photographed in the rainforest near Boca Tapada in the San Carlos canton of Alajuela province, Costa Rica, on June 29, 2026. The male clings to the back of the larger female in the mating posture typical of the species, a behavior most commonly observed during the rainy season when breeding activity peaks. Native to the rainforests of Central America, the red-eyed tree frog is nocturnal and not venomous, relying on its vivid coloration and bulging red eyes to startle predators long enough to escape.
