Tourism in Angra dos Reis and Ilha Grande
Angra dos Reis, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 17 August 2016: Approximately 3,000 people live on the Big Island and for their support, work with tourist activities, fishing or small local businesses, such as handicrafts, restaurants and inns. The Ilha Grande (Big Island) is located in the city of Angra dos Reis, South of Rio de Janeiro State, at a distance of about 400 km from Rio de Janeiro or from Sao Paulo. The Big Island covers an area of 193KM2 and has over 100 crystalline water beaches, which are empty most of the year, being a perfect tourist destination for those who want privacy and even exclusivity because some of the beaches are uninhabited. The city of Angra dos Reis is comprised of 365 Islands, some are private and inhabited and others has public access. The Big Island has been considered one of the 7 Wonders of Rio de Janeiro, losing only to the sugar loaf, which is in the capital of Rio de Janeiro. There are several diving spots in the region with great natural wealth. On land there are springs and waterfalls that are a SideShow. The Ilha Grande State Park preserves 62.5% of the Atlantic Forest (Mata Atlantica) areas, whith very rich flora and fauna. In the areas of the Ilha Grande that are outside the Park, there are strict rules for occupation and touristc activities, ensuring the preservation of nature and historical heritage site.
