Russian KAB strike destroys architectural landmark in Zaporizhzhia
The historic building of School No. 81, damaged in a military operation, in Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine, on July 4, 2026. The building, formerly the Mennonite girls' school Madchenschule in the Rosenthal colony, had served as a branch of Children's Music School No. 5. The city experienced strikes involving at least five guided aerial bombs. Seven people, including a child, were injured. Built in 1904 in the Art Nouveau style with elements of Dutch Renaissance and Late Baroque, the building is a locally protected architectural landmark dating to the early 20th century. In 1910, teacher Petro Buzuk founded the Khortytsia Society for Nature Protection, the first nature conservation society in the Russian Empire. (Photo by Dmytro Smolienko/Ukrinform/NurPhoto)
