Venomous Snake Eyelash Viper Costa Rica
A yellow eyelash viper (Bothriechis schlegelii) is photographed during a macro photography workshop at La Tarde, a remote off-grid eco-lodge in Costa Rica, on July 6, 2026. Named for the distinctive scale projections above its eyes that resemble eyelashes, the species occurs in a striking range of color morphs, with yellow being among the most visually dramatic. A highly venomous arboreal pit viper, it is typically found coiled among flowers and vegetation in humid tropical forests from southern Mexico to northwestern South America.
