Animals Poison Frog Costa Rica
A granular poison frog (Oophaga granulifera) is photographed during a macro photography workshop at La Tarde, a remote off-grid eco-lodge in Costa Rica, on July 6, 2026. The species, known for the granular texture of its skin, displays vivid coloration as a warning to potential predators, a defense mechanism known as aposematism. The granular poison frog is endemic to the Pacific lowlands of Costa Rica and western Panama, making it one of the more range-restricted poison dart frogs in Central America.
