Flood-Isolated Homestead
An aerial view shows a small patch of land with houses and trees isolated by floodwaters in the Katharia area of Banshkhali, Chattogram, Bangladesh, on July 9, 2026. Following five consecutive days of heavy rainfall, flash floods from the surrounding hills, and high tidal surges from the Bay of Bengal, vast areas of the upazila are inundated. Thousands of families are stranded as rising water submerges roads, cropland, and low-lying settlements, leaving many homes cut off from surrounding communities and highlighting the vulnerability of Bangladesh's coastal districts to increasingly frequent extreme weather events.
