Forest Wildfire Near Barcelona
Flames burn through a forested area of Cervello, near Barcelona, Spain, on July 22, 2026. Fire crews from the Catalan Fire and Rescue Service (Bombers de la Generalitat), supported by ground and aerial resources, worked to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading toward nearby residential areas and surrounding woodland under extreme wildfire conditions driven by high temperatures. The fire is part of a particularly severe wildfire season in Spain, which has already burned nearly 120,000 hectares and recorded 21 large wildfires since the beginning of the year, making it one of the country's worst starts to a fire season in the past decade, according to Copernicus and Spanish authorities.
