Lithuania Reinforces Security At Klaipeda LNG Terminal Amid Russian Threat Concerns

The Akacia container ship is seen in Klaipeda, Lithuania on 22 July, 2026. Lithuania has placed it's Klaipeda LNG terminal under reinforced military guard through August 19 amid fears of Russian sabotage targeting critical infrastructure. The Klaipeda liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal is among the critical energy sites receiving reinforced military security after Lithuania's defense minister authorized deploying troops and a naval vessel to guard the facility amid concerns over possible Russian provocations. A unit of up to 30 service members, backed by vehicles and a ship or patrol boat, will patrol the site through August 19. The move coincides with military exercises running in Klaipeda and nearby areas from July 20-26. (Photo by Jaap Arriens/NurPhoto)
