Modern Replica Of Traditional Balangay Boat In Manila

A modern replica of the ancient Filipino balangay boat, B.B. Florentino Das, is docked along the Pasig River in Manila, Philippines, on July 26, 2026. The balangay is a wooden plank boat used by early Filipinos for trading, migration, and seafaring. It is known as the first ancient wooden watercraft excavated in Southeast Asia. The 24-meter replica vessel, constructed in 2024 using ironwood sourced from Siargao Island, has traveled across Philippine waters. (Photo by Melvin James Urubio/NurPhoto)
