Cabo Frio in Rio de Janeiro

In Cabo Frio, there are vacation areas for people with high purchasing power. It is a common tourist destination for those who need to be close to major urban centers of Brazil. The city has an airport that allows to get to downtown Rio, São Paulo or Belo Horizonte in a few flight time. The city of Cabo Frio is located 156km from the city of Rio de Janeiro. Cabo Frio was founded in 1615 after dispute between French and Portuguese. Because of his past in colonial times, the city is full of churches, forts and buildings from the 17th century. In holiday periods and during Carnival, the city receives up to 1 million tourists and vacationers to enjoy its beaches of white sand and clear, calm waters. Among the main Cabo Frio tourist spots are: Praia do Forte, Forte de São Mateus 1618, Church of St. Benedict built by slaves in the 18th century and the exuberant nature of the city that lies between the Atlantic Ocean and the Lagoa Araruama (largest hypersaline lagoon in the world).
