Race 'Caballitos de Totora' in Ibarra
Competition of Caballitos de Totora in Ibarra, Ecuador on 24 September 2016. Yahuarcocha lagoon was the scene of the seventh edition of the competition Caballitos de Totora in the lagoon Yahuarcocha located in the city of Ibarra in northern Ecuador. The competition was organized by the Mayor of Ibarra for the celebration of 410 years of foundation. The Caballitos are made from a natural fiber known as cattails growing on the same stage, the natural plant is also used to make beautiful handicrafts in the area. Participants helped an oar, sailed 3 kilometers, according to organizers, making the horses of reeds is an indigenous technique that tries to rescue the province of Imbabura.The name of the lake comes from the Kichwa language and translates Blood Lake and is considered one of the most important gaps in Ecuador.
