Pilgrimage to Aparecida

Thousands of people sojourned this Wednesday - national holiday in Brazil - to the temple of Our Holy Lady Aparecida to pay homage to the country's patron saint. The legend says that, in October 12th 1717, 3 men were fishing at the Paraiba do Sul river without success. Suddenly they caught an small statue of Holy Lady Conception, and after that, lots of fish. At the place of the suppose miracle was bought the world's second biggest catholic sanctuary, in Aparecida. This year, more than 170,000 people attended this year's festivities, around 10,000 came walking, in a pilgrimage of hundreds of km (Photo by Gustavo Basso/NurPhoto)
