Ithaca Laundry Van in Athens

Ithaca Laundry Van in Athens, Greece, Oct 23, 2016. Ithaca Laundry Van service was created in order to raise the hygiene standards of the homeless, bring back their self esteem and dignity and create new opportunities for them.Today, in Athens, 17.700 people are considered homeless. Among them, 1500 live rough on the streets. The ongoing economic crisis and the lack of a national plan against homelessness intensify the social exclusion of the homeless people and those who can’t cover their basic needs. The clothes are washed automatically in the washing machines. Volunteers collect the clothes, transfer them from the washing machines to the tumble dryers, return them to the homeless and generally organize the process. (Photo by Giorgos Georgiou/NurPhoto)
