New section of VLT Carioca opens but does not work
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, December 19, 2016: Church of St. George is reflected in the glasses of the VLT, which still does not work and is parked on site. The VLT Carioca (Light Rail Vehicle) was one of the main legacies of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, but during the Olympic Games, only one section worked, linking Santos Dumont Airport to Novo Rio bus terminal. This weekend, Rio's City Hall inaugurated a new stretch of VLT Carioca, linking the vicinity of Central do Brasil with Praça XV. The inauguration was only a political event, since there are still many workers working in the area and the passenger transport service should only be operational in January 2017, under the management of the new mayor of Rio, Marcelo Crivela, who will replace Eduardo Paes, the current mayor.
