More than 14,000 people live on the streets of Rio

Man sleeps on the steps of the Municipal Theater. Data released by the City Hall indicate that there are 14,279 homeless people in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The number is 3 times higher than the data released in 2013. With the worsening economic and political crisis in Brazil, many people are no longer able to support their homes and are living on the streets, living on alms and donations. On the afternoon of Monday, January 16, 2017, dozens of homeless people waited to receive food donated by the Catholic Church in the vicinity of Arcos da Lapa, one of the main tourist attractions in the city.
