Celebration of the Chinese New Year in Amsterdam

This year on January 28th, it takes places the celebration of the Chinese New Year in Amsterdam. Lion dancers visit the houses and shops of the Chinese community to perform the traditional custom of "cai qing", a quest by the 'lion' to pluck the auspicious green 'vegetables' like lettuce and auspicious fruit like oranges tied to a "Red Envelope" containing money. All of this surrounding by a lot of fireworks. The lion dance is believed to bring good luck and fortune to the business. The troupe is rewarded with the red envelope.
