The Resurrection of Jesus in Tiros/Arcadia
The unique Easter customs of Tiros, a small sea village in Arcadia, attract numerous tourists from Athens, Greece and abroad on 16 April 2017. During the Orthodox liturgy on the evening of Bright Sunday, the children put in the sea hundreds of handmade floating lamps and afterwards villagers with their fishing boats burn the manikin of hanged Judas that lies on a sea platform, in the middle of the picturesque port. The celebration of the Resurrection of Christ (midnight) peaks with loud –mostly handmade- firecrackers and hundreds of fireworks that turn the night into day. (Photo by Maria Chourdari/NurPhoto)
