Peshmerga forces training
At the Bnaslawa training base south of Erbil, the capital of Iraqi Kurdistan, men and women peshmerga forces are completing training courses, many have already seen Urban warfare and are learning new skills. Here men and women are trained by German, Dutch, French and Italian military forces that work in helping the Peshmerga receive professional training. They train peshmerga on coalition-supplied heavy weapons; shooting and battlefield manoeuvres; urban warfare; improvised explosive device detection and diffusion; and medical aid. The base is an important facility as it works in cooperation with the European Communities and also has an excellent reputation for gender equality training. (Photo by Gail Orenstein/NurPhoto)
