Traditional Festival of Juan Montalvo, in Cayambe

In the parish Juan Montalvo of Cayambe, Ecuador, every year its inhabitants celebrate for eight weeks the festivities of San Pedro. Comparsas and dances in the main streets of the parish give life to the area every weekend. This celebration is developed for several centuries and is part of the ancestral culture of Juan Montalvo. Folkloric dance groups are organized from the neighborhoods or between friends. Residents of the sector or outsiders wait every Saturday and Sunday in the paths to see them sing and dance to the sound of Andean instruments. The women dance in colorful costumes and the men are in charge of singing and singing the charango, guitar, violin, flute and bass drum. The octaves, as it is known to this celebration, will extend until the 21 of August.
