Turkey's Main Opposition Party Deputy Safak Pavey Resigns

Turkey's main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) Deputy Safak Pavey is pictured during a protest in Ankara, Turkey on May 12, 2017. Safak Pavey announced that she has resigned from her duties as a MP on September 15. She showed health problems as a reason for her resignation. According to the rules of procedure of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), a deputy's resignation cannot be unilateral. The petition for resignation is evaluated by the Council of the Assembly. After determining the validity of the resignation, the Council presents the petition to the agenda of the assembly.
