Protest against gay cure in Sao Paulo
Protesters protest on Avenida Paulista on 22 September 2017 against Judge Waldemar Cláudio de Carvalho of the 14th Federal District Court, granted an injunction that, in practice, makes it legally possible for psychologists to offer sexual reversal pseudo-therapies, popularly called " gay cure". Not a few of those who, in protest, have accused the magistrate of being homophobic and have said that homosexuality is a disease. In fact, Carvalho does not go so far as to explicitly defend the gay cure and does not overturn a resolution of the Federal Council of Psychology (CFP) that, since March 1999, forbids its practice. He also made it clear in his text that, in analyzing the case, he adopted as a premise the position of the World Health Organization that "homosexuality constitutes a natural variation of human sexuality and therefore can not be considered a pathological condition."
