Argentine activist for the rights of the Mapuche community found in a river

Liliana Alaniz, a complainant lawyer for a human rights organization, during the autopsy process of a body found on the same river where Santiago Maldonado disappeared. Maldonado's body was found on October 17, 2017 in a river in southern Argentina, where he was last seen when the Gendarmerie dispersed a Mapuche protest in Resistencia, Cushamen department, some 1,850 kilometres southwest of Buenos Aires. Maldonado's relatives confirmed the identity of the corpse saying ''We recognised the tattoos, we are convinced that it is Santiago''. (Photo by Gabriel Sotelo/NurPhoto)
