Theertham Thiruvizha Festival

Silver necklace with rudraksh (rudraksha) beads to be used in prayers during the Theertham Thiruvizha Festival at a Tamil Hindu Temple in Ontario, Canada. As part of the prayers during this festival Tamil Hindu priests perform a homa (homam) sacred fire ceremony. During the homa religious offerings are cast into fire. At the conclusion of the homa a small idol of Lord Ganesh is placed on the head of one of the Hindu priests who carries it to the inner sanctum of the temple. This festival takes place on the 15th day of the Ganesh Festival, the day after the extravagant chariot procession. (Photo by Creative Touch Imaging Ltd./NurPhoto)
