Historic City of Ayutthaya, Thailand
Ayutthaya, the second capital of Ayutthaya Kingdom, a Siamese kingdom from the 13th century. The city was destroyed by the Burmese in the 18th century. Remains among the ruins are the prangs or wat, huge monasteries, statues etc. Very popular attractions are the Buddha Head statue with trapped in Bodhi Tree roots at Wat Maha That and the huge reclining Buddha statue. The historic area is in the UNESCO world heritage list. Today thousands of foreign tourists visit the location as it is not more than 2 hours away from the capital of Thailand, Bangkok.
