Geert Wilders and his far-Right Party for Freedom (PVV) held a demonstration in Rotterdam

January 20th, Rotterdam. Geert Wilders and his far-Right Party for Freedom (PVV) held a demonstration in Rotterdam. The party is demonstrating against the Rutte III which is the cabinet of the Netherlands since 26 October 2017, and also against the 'Islamization' of the Netherlands. The PVV is led by Geert Wilders, who founded the party in 2006 after a stint as an independent MP. While his message seems to be garner votes throughout the country, there are some parallels to the triumphs of Brexit and Donald Trump in his support base. Areas that have a higher proportion of old people, lower educated people and large wage inequality between migrants and the native population have, on average, higher turnout for the PVV. Bus transportation was provided by the PVV, so the supporters can go from other parts of the country. There was some tension when some people from another political party Denk, showed up to protest against this demonstration. (Photo by Romy Arroyo Fernandez/NurPhoto)
