The Aquarium Of Sao Paulo
Suricates are seen in the Aquarium of São Paulo in the South Zone on Wednesday, 9th. The suricates are exclusively diurnal and live in colonies of up to 40 individuals, who construct a complicated system of tunnels underground, where they remain overnight. They have a longevity between 5 and 12 years, reaching up to 15 in captivity. Within the group, the animals take turns in the tasks of guarding and protecting the children of the community. The social system of the suricates is complex and includes a language of its own which seems to indicate, for example, the type of an approaching predator. They reach sexual maturity at one year of age, being able to have three to five pups per litter. (Photo by Cris Faga/NurPhoto)
