Refugee living conditions in Greece

An Afghan refugee woman irons on the last floor of the building. Due to its geographical position, Greece has the role of immigrants reception coming from Asia in order to continue their long trip to Europe. Several of them come in Greece with a view to find work and integrate into the society, without being able to imagine the scale of the crisis Greece has been facing the last three years. The result of this situation for them, is to be trapped in a country, without having work or a place to live, and without any help by the Greek state. For several years the Municipality of Thessaloniki granted a block of apartments, in order to host immigrants who were unable to rent a house for themselves. Due to financial crisis the Municipality of Thessaloniki, retired from the finance of this area. Since then, charitable organizations and citizens of Thessaloniki, undertook the maintenance of the building. The plan of all building's residents is to find a way to move in Northern Europe.
