Slavery ruins are found in downtown Rio

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, August 9, 2018: Archaeologists from the engineering firm that carries out works to enlarge the VLT Carioca (light rail vehicle) found an archaeological site in Rio Downtown, in ruins of buildings that were used for the African slave trade during the period of 1860 and 1874, period in which Brazil was ruled by Portugal. All material is being documented and collected for analysis and poster exposure. The custody of the objects will be with the Iphan - Institute of National Historical Artistic Heritage.
