An indian priest offers special evening prayers on the flood banks of Ganges River , on the ocassion of Teej Festival , in Allahabad on September 12, 2018 . According to Hindu mythology to win the heart of lord Shiva goddess parvati showed austerity towards lord Shiva with her pure soul. Eventually her parents didn't like lord Shiva as her groom that is why goddess parvati started austretive devotion secretly her love and affection was so deep for Shiva that she left water, food and all of her comfort and started surviving only in the presence of pure air composed with devotion , according to Hindu calendar month on bhadrapada Shukl paksha( bright half) tritiya tithi Shiva blessed her that he will be marrying her and accepted her as his wife ,that is why it is also known as hartalika teej. All the Hindu festival in India is related to agriculture so this is how festival starts till the time of harvesting ( which will be in Diwali ) during ancient times when paddy used to start ripening slowly germination use to start all the women used to go to their mothers place and use to begin the celebration of all the festival till the time of harvesting . Like wise now also women visit their mothers place even after having busy lifestyle they celebrate this auspicious festival with austerity and devotion (without drinking water and food for a day) towards lord Shiva by praying to give long live to their life partner .
