Eviction in Madrid - February 10, 2014
A bunch of keys remain next to a clock early in the morning while 30 year old Iban Labici, 29 year-old Lavinia Uta and 36-year old Ion Nenzet wait to be evicted from their home in Madrid, Spain, Monday, Feb. 10th 2014. 30 year-old Iban Labici, with his partner 29 year-old Lavinia Uta from Romania were evicted from their previous home owned by " La Caixa" in 2010 when they lost their jobs due to the financial crisis. Iban's brother, 38 year-old Mihail Labici offered them one of his two homes whose mortgages were contracted with Banco Sabadell. 38 year-old Mihail Labici in the past led a construction company that went bankrupt due to the financial crisis and defaults and he became unemployed unnable to pay the mortgage of his two apartments. At the present time Iban Labici, who is unemployed, lives at one of Mihail's apartments with his partner Lavinia Uta and a friend of both, 36 year-old Ion Nenzet who is also unemployed. Of the three people living in the apartment only Lavinia Uta who works as a waitress receives a salary of 400 euros (545$) per month which are insufficient to face the mortgage payment of 1200 euros (1,636$). Unable to cope with the monthly mortgage payment the two aparments which are property of Iban's brother, Mihail Labici, accumulated a debt of 400,000 euros (545,328$). With the help of the platform of the affected by mortgages ( La PAH ) they have postponed their eviction one month, during that time they will try to negotiate with the bank Sabadell, a social rent.
