The 400-year-old event at Ottery St Mary's carnival on 4 November appeared to be under threat after its insurer pulled out. The event, in which competitors run with burning barrels on their back through the village, until the heat becomes too unbearable or the barrel breaks down, raises thousands of pounds for charity and attracts people from around the world.
