Low turnout marks municipal polls in Indian- administered Kashmir

Indian government forces guard a deserted polling station, during the second phase of municipal polls, on October 10, 2018 in Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian administered Kashmir, India. Poor voter turnout marked the second phase of municipal elections in Kashmir amid a partial shutdown and heavy deployment of government forces across the region. Pro-independence groups have rejected the polls as farce and called for a boycott while major pro-India parties like National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) also stayed away from the electoral process alleging Indian governments attempts to alter the special status accorded to the disputed Himalayan region in the countrys Constitution.
