USTKE is an independantist union created in 1981 by a Kanak entrepreneur and is founding part of the FLNKS (FLNKS reads for Kanak and Socialist National Liberation Front). New Caledonians gathered in Toulouse before the independence referendum on November 4th 2018. After a process beginning in 1986 (Accord de Nouméa), New Caledonia (called 'Le Caillou' or 'The Peeble') has gained powers transfered by French State.
