St.Martin's Day Parade In Utrecht

St.Martin's Day Parade In Utrecht, The Netherlands on 10 November 2018. St. Martin's Parade is a wonderful festival of light for old and young with light sculptures, orchestras, choirs and theatrical acts that travel through the city center of Utrecht. St. Martin is the patron saint of Utrecht. This year, the parade revolves around 'Peace & Safety for everyone', with the theme 'Bridge builders'. As soon as it gets dark, children go door to door with their hand-crafted lanterns singing St. Martin's songs, with the hope of receiving some candies in return. In this sense, the parade reminds us of Halloween. The lanterns are made of hollowed-out sugar beet or, more recently, paper. St.Martin's Day is an old harvest festival that is celebrated in many European countries and precedes the fasting period of Advent. He was a revered European saint known for his kindness to strangers and symbolizes solidarity and charity. (Photo by Ricardo Hernández/NurPhoto)
