Tourism In Eastern Turkey
On 11 November 2018, the remains of King Gagik's church of St Gregory, a structure built between 1001 and 1005, stand near the Turkish-Armenian border, 45 km east of Kars. Ani was historically the Armenian capital and home to nearly 100,000 people, but was repeatedly sacked and destroyed through numerous wars. As of 2018, the Turkish government has launched a project to restore the ruins and promote tourism in the culturally and historically significant site. (Photo by Diego Cupolo/NurPhoto)
