Tourism In Eastern Turkey
On 11 November 2018, the remains of the Monastery of the Hripsimian Virgins, stand on the Akhurian River which acts as the modern border between Turkey and Armenia. The monestery is part of the historic fortress city of Ani, once the capital of Armenian and home to nearly 100,000 people, but since sacked and destroyed through numerous wars. As of 2018, the Turkish government has launched a project to restore the ruins and promote tourism in the culturally and historically significant site. (Photo by Diego Cupolo/NurPhoto)
