Melilla Border Fence Morocco–Spain
A general view of the border fence at the Morocco–Spain border in the city of Melilla, one of two Spanish cities in north of Africa. The fence was constructed by Spain to stop illegal immigration and smuggling. Since its construction, the fence was upgrated several times. Today, it consists of 11.5 km of two parallel high fences of 6 metres with another one in the middle high of 3 metres. Fences are topped with regular watchposts and a road running between them to accommodate either the Guardia Civile patrols or ambulance service in case of need. A network of underground cables connect spotlights, noise and movement sensors, and video cameras to a central control booth. Many devices were added to slow the jumps and climbing. On Wednesday, December 5, 2018, in Melilla, Spain. (Photo by Artur Widak/NurPhoto)
