Demonstration Against Anti-LGBTQ Manifesto Signed By Dutch Protestant Pastors

January 9th, Amsterdam. After important members of the Dutch Protestant church, including Dutch pastors, university lecturers and an MP of SGP (the fundamentalist Christian party) have signed a manifesto which is targeted against the LGBTQ community. This manifesto is a direct translation of another 2017 manifesto the ‘Nashville declaration’ in the United States. Hundreds of people gathered at the Homomonument (it commemorates all gay men and lesbians who have been subjected to persecution because of their homosexuality), to celebrate that every person deserves to feel loved and welcome in the church and beyond, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or sexual characteristics. The meeting counted with the presence of the Mayor of Amsterdam, Femke Halsema, speakers from the LGBTI and religious community and Wielie Elhorst homosexual and minister in general service for the national youth work of the Protestant Church in the Netherlands.
