Daily Life In Jerusalem

View of Ein Karem village which it considered one of the suburbs of Jerusalem. Archaeological evidence indicates that this site was as early as the second millennium BC. According to one account, Ein Karem is the birthplace of John the Baptist. According to Christian beliefs, Jesus and the Virgin Mary visited Zara Ein Karem several times. It is believed that the second Caliph Umar ibn al-Khattab passed it once during the Islamic conquest, and prayed in it. Ottoman records show that in 1596 Ein Kerem was a village in the Jerusalem area (the Jerusalem Brigade), with a population of only 160 people. (Photo by Saeed Qaq/NurPhoto)
