10th Tehran Auction – Contemporary Iranian Art

Participants follow the Tehran Art Auction at the Azadi Hotel in Tehran, Iran, Friday, January 11, 2019. Over 1000 enthusiastic art lovers and collectors of Iranian art were present and drove the total sale up by almost 137% over the last Tehran Auction contemporary sale in January 2018. Of about 200 registered bidders in the room, more than 30% were first time bidders. 114 works of art by 105 artists, consisting of 94 paintings, 14 sculptures, and 6 photographs, reached a total of 3,440,300 USD. This was well above the original estimate of around 2,500,000 USD. Out of 114 lots, 113 were sold. Several artists set their national records, including Monir Farmanfarmaian, Hossein Zenderoudi, Jazeh Tabatabie, Koorosh Shishegaran, and Bahman Mohassess. Considering the current economic situation, the success of the auction was a remarkable achievement. (Photo by Rouzbeh Fouladi/NurPhoto)
