Brazil Stock Market Recedes After Disaster In MG

The Sao Paulo Stock Exchange lost nearly 3,000 points on 28 January 2019, with the sharp drop in the shares of Vale and Bradespar. The two companies' common shares lost about 19% early in the trading session, reflecting the tragedy in Brumadinho (MG) on the first trading day after that. The opening bid for the two stocks lasted more than normal, but the decline of the Ibovespa was moderate, following the negative variation of the European stock exchanges. At 1:18 pm, the Ibovespa fell 2.63%, to 95,105 points. At the same time, the ON shares of Vale were down 22.48% (Photo by Cris Faga/NurPhoto)
