Traditional event called "Ragoutsaria" held in Thessaloniki
Ragoutsaria is an Northern Greek tradition held every year in the city of Kastoria. This year, citizens of Kastoria, in cooperation with the Municipality of Thessaloniki transferred this traditional event in Aristotelous Square in Thessaloniki. The Carnival celebrations of Kastoria (The Ragoutsaria) date from the ancient times as they were part of the Dionysian orgiastic rites. They would take place in the middle of winter after the 25th of December, the celebration for the birth of the Sun, to honour Nature for regenerating Spring. (Photo by Giannis Papanikos/NurPhoto)
