Daily Life In Vavuniya

Cows graze along a razor wire fence cordoning off land seized by the Sri Lankan Army during the Sri Lankan civil war in Vavuniya, Sri Lanka. Much land that once belonged to the Tamil people before the civil war had continued to be occupied by the Sri Lankan army and has not been returned to the Tamil, even though the civil war is long over. This is just one of the many reminders of the deep scars caused as a result of 26-year long civil war between the Sri Lankan Army and the LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam). The United Nations estimates about 40,000 people were killed during the war. (Photo by Creative Touch Imaging Ltd./NurPhoto)
