Hora Sfakion Coast Town In Crete Island

Hora Sfakion or Sfakia, a popular little town on the south coast of Crete island in Greece, touching the Libyan Sea in the Mediterranean. It is the capital of Sfakia region that is remote and mountainous. The town is connected by ferry through the small dock and road to the mainland. During the summer it is a famous destination for tourists as there are beaches with crystal clear transparent water, many traditional festivals like Sfakian Pie Festival and is near many canyons, gorges like Imbros Gorge, and the White Mountains, Lefka Ori. Many hikers after crossing Samaria Gorge continue trekking to Chora Sfakion or many pass from there through the connecting ferry from Agia Roumeli, Loutro or Gavdos island. In the town lies a WWII commemorating monument for British and ANZAC forces. (Photo by Nicolas Economou/NurPhoto)
