Bulgaria Kuker Dancers Evil Spirits
Bulgarian masked Kuker dancers wear masks during the 24th International Festival of Masquerade Games "Surva" in the town of Pernik, West of the Capital Sofia, Friday, Jan. 30, 2015. 5,000 people will take part in the three-day festival devoted to an ancient Bulgarian pagan rite. Surva is performed by costumed by anymal fur men, some or other colorful garments, bells and scary masks, who walk around and dance to scare away the evil spirits, to provide a good harvest, health, fertility, and happiness during the year.
