Commemorations Of The 79th Anniversary Of Katyn Massacre In Krakow

Members of 'Malopolska Patriots' nationalist association marched this afternoon from Krakow's Main Square to Katyn Cross monument on the day of the 79th anniversary of the Katyn massacre, a series of 1940 mass executions of about 22,000 Polish military officers and intelligentsia carried out by the Soviet Union. The Katyn massacre has no specific date, because the massacre in Katyn, Miednoje, Ostashkov and other places is a tragedy that lasted for weeks. The day of remembrance was symbolically recognized on April 13, 1990, as the Russian authorities officially admitted that the crimes against Poles were made on the orders of Joseph Stalin by the Soviet NKVD.
