Fifth Phase Of Lok Sabha Elections 2019

India. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Hooghly Locket Chatterjee alleged on Monday that “immense kind of rigging” is taking place across the constituency. Chatterjee said that villagers in Hooghly raised pro-Mamata Banerjee slogans in the 200 meters vicinity of polling both while she was taking a round of the constituency. Chatterjee is taking on Pratul Saha of the Congress, Ratna De Nag of the Trinamool Congress and Pradip Saha of the CPI(M). TMC's Ratna De Nag has been winning this seat since 2009. Nag outperformed Pradip Saha in 2014 by a margin of around 1.9 lak votes. In 2009, he handed over a defeat to CPM's Rupchand Pal. The state has witnessed several poll-related violence in the past and huge deployment of the ce keep the situation from getting volatile. The BJP seems to have been in direct competition with the TMC in West Bengal as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah held several rallies in the run-up to the polls, mustering support. The polling is underway across seven states in 51 constituencies in the fifth phase of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
