Protest Brazil Against Cuts In Federal Public Education
Hundreds of thousands of people took the streets of Sao Paulo, Brazil, on May 15, 2019 to protest against the federal government's cuts in public education. The last weeks the Ministry of Education announced a 30% reduction in funding from federal universities and in the funding of postgrade programs. Brazil's public universities are responsible for 95% of the country's scientific production, yet the president Jair Bolsonaro called the protesters 'a bunch of useful idiots' (Photo by Gustavo Basso/NurPhoto)
