Activist Group Extinction Rebellion Launch 'Summer Uprising' In London
Members and supporters of climate change activist group Extinction Rebellion hold a banner across the Strand at Aldwych on the opening day of the group's 'Summer Uprising' demonstration outside the Royal Courts of Justice in London, England, on July 15, 2019. Demonstrations were also held in Bristol, Cardiff, Leeds and Glasgow. Among their demands for greater action on climate change, protesters are calling for 'ecocide' (i.e. the destruction of ecosystems) to be made a criminal act. The centrepiece of the London protest, a blue boat, the 'Polly Higgins', is named after the late environmental lawyer and campaigner for the criminalisation of ecocide who died in April this year, age 50.
