Traveling In Peru And Bolivia

Workers carry 50kg bags of salt in the Marasal salt pans, this Monday, 21th July 2019, in Urubamba, Peru. The company runs as cooperative producing salt in a way similar to pre-incan times. Around 7,000 basins store salt water that runs naturally in the region. Contained in the 2m to 5m deep basins, the water takes around 1 month to evaporate, and the salt is then collected into bags, separated in 3 different qualities. Worker's carry 40 bags a day, 7 days a week, to get a minimum wage. Tourism became in recent years another source of income for the hundreds of families supported by the milenar extraction (Photo by Gustavo Basso/NurPhoto)
